Trump Supporters Raise Right Hands to Pledge SupportĀ
Slate ^

Posted on 03/08/2016 5:10:32 AM PST by Altariel

On Saturday, Donald Trump led a rally of supporters to raise their right hands and take a pledge that they would vote for him. “Let’s do a pledge. Who likes me in this room?” Trump asked the crowd at a rally in Orlando, Florida, which was frequently interrupted by protesters. “I’ve never done this before. Can I have a pledge? A swearing? Raise your right hand.”

The Republican presidential front-runner then proceeded to get the audience to repeat after him. “I do solemnly swear that I, no matter how I feel, no matter what the conditions, if there are hurricanes or whatever, will vote on or before the 12th for Donald J. Trump for president.”

Waiting for a “reality” show highlighting the many ways a man can injure his testicles.

YouTube has replaced "Ow, My Balls!". Just go there, and you can fulfill that prophecy, too.

Brawndo! It's got what plants crave!

It’s true, my mother used to pledge that way. Right arm outstretched at the words “to the flag.”

People know deep down it was light-hearted and didn’t mean anything, but guess what? They don’t care. They are making it to be something it’s not to win. That’s disgraceful.

That is creepy, not the hands in the air thing, but someone that would "swear" to support someone. I am a Cruz fan, I ain't going to swear anything to him though.

Swear - To make a solemn declaration, invoking a deity or a sacred person or thing, in confirmation of and witness to the honesty or truth of such a declaration.

my brothers and sisters, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. - James 5:12

Thank you for the example of how to raise your hand for an oath.

Dumb, dumb, dumb

This is a swearing in ceremony and nothing more.

Raising the right hand to get sworn in is as old as this country.

The Nazi arm was a SALUTE that was accompanied by praise “Heil...Hail”

A swearing in is followed by a promise: “I promise to...”

Not one of your spam posts shows people with their arm outstretched like the Trumpsters.

Of course, they aren't Nazis. Just ignorant.

Byron, the idea of making a pledge of loyalty to an individual like this is going to feel wrong to most Americans no matter who the object may be. It’s reminiscent of the Obama campaign and his absurd personality cult in 2008. We pledge allegiance to our country, our flag, our Constitution, or maybe even a political party. If you’re Australian at some point in your life you may have pledged loyalty to a monarch, but that’s not our way.

Congratulations on making it evident that you are willing to hyperventilate about something you didn't see. There was no loyalty pledged to anyone. You are a middle school girl.

No, it’s the “principled conservatism” of Ted Cruz. Should it be any surprise he is one of Mitt Romney’s preferred candidates?

It's a kidding way for him to reinforce the importance of voting.

He had to have known how it was going to be spun though.

I gave him the benefit of doubt over some of his antics because he was winning but these last few primaries haven't been pretty. He needs to get back on track so he can wrap this thing up and take the fight to Hillary.
