Does This Video Show Ted Cruz’s Father Speaking in Tongues?

A video featuring Rafael Cruz, father of Republican presidential Ted Cruz, that was originally posted last month is gaining renewed attention, with claims that it features the elder Cruz praying in tongues.

The Drudge Report published a link to the clip on Friday with the headline, ’DAD SPEAKING IN TONGUES.” The video in question features Pastor Kenneth Copeland saying from the pulpit that he believes that Ted Cruz is “anointed to be the next president of the United States.”

After Copeland is seen inviting Rafael Cruz to the stage, the two discuss how Ted Cruz spent six months steeped in prayer with his family before deciding to run for the presidency — a story that the candidate’s father also recently shared with TheBlaze.

It’s what happened next, though, that is capturing attention, as some believe that Cruz is seen in the video “speaking in tongues” (also known as glossolalia) — a religious gift that purportedly permits certain Christians to speak and interpret a special language that comes directly from God.

Or, as Encyclopedia Britannica defines it, “utterances approximating words and speech, usually produced during states of intense religious experience.”

I agree. There may be hundreds of snake-handlers nationwide, but there are hundreds of thousands, at least, of Pentecostals, broadly defined.

Well if Kenneth Copeland prophesied a Cruz victory, we know it won’t be happening...

I’m ready for this election to be over, too. Paintball tournament, Thunderdome cage match, Iron Chef cookoff ... let’s just get it over with before any more harm is done.

and if it does, so what?

(makes more sense than 99% of political speeches this year, anyway)

I am a Trump supporter. I watched carefully, and what I saw him say was "Hallelujah, hallelujah!" — several times. Nothing whatsoever unusual with that.

This is yellow journalism and it's inflammatory nonsense.

Thanks for posting this story.

This raises an important topic: anti-Christian bigotry among conservatives.

It seems to be getting more commonplace and is pretty sad to see.

No, I have not seen “Cutthroat Kitchen.” Sounds like something the teenagers would enjoy.

There are three chefs competing. They bid on horrible things to use to sabotage the other chef’s creations, like a Swiss Army Knife instead of their own chef’s knives, Fake powdered creamer instead of real cream, etc.

Sometimes the most abused chef is so good that even with 2-3 handicaps like these, he or she will create the winning dish. I love it when that happens.

It is like a microcosm of our world today!

On one episode, there was a sweet woman who didn’t bid on any of the handicaps. As a result, the other two chefs piled all of them on her. She had to use gummy worms in her recipe, didn’t have any utensils, couldn’t use the stove, etc.

She created a whimsical desert that totally charmed the judges, and she WON! hahaha
