Cruz draws from anti-Islamist fringe
Politico ^ | 3-17-2016 | MICHAEL CROWLEY

Posted on 03/17/2016 6:55:23 PM PDT by Citizen Zed

Ted Cruz's new team of foreign policy advisers includes several fringe conservative activists and fervid anti-Islamist hardliners — but few of the GOP establishment elites who are outraged over the rise of Donald Trump.

Cruz's list of nearly two dozen names includes Frank J. Gaffney, Jr., a former Reagan Pentagon official whose focus on the influence of Islam in the U.S. has drawn charges of bigotry. In June 2009, Gaffney claimed there was "mounting evidence" that President Barack Obama "not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself."

Has Trump voiced the possibility that Obama is a Muslim?

This could give Cruz the edge he needs.

...fervid anti-Islamist hardliners

So being against Islamic terrorists is an extreme hardline position now?

There is a difference between keeping them out of our country and setting up to go to war.
Cruz, based on his foreign policy adviser selected today, is preparing for imminent war.

Well pardon us for not wanting to import thousands of gang rapists and future terrorists.

"Has Trump voiced the possibility that Obama is a Muslim?"

Not that I ever heard, but he sure had a lot of Freepers convinced he had evidence his birth certificate was fake.

Never did see that evidence. He dropped it like a bomb shell.

With this appointment the differences between Cruz and Trump on foreign policy are made stark.

One cannot imagine Ted Cruz, working with the advice of Frank Gaffney, criticizing Pamela Geller as Trump did when her First Amendment rights were threatened by Muslims. One cannot trust Donald Trump on national security concerning the threat of militant Islam because we know that Trump lied about his opposition to the Iraq war, claiming credit for opposition when he in fact supported the invasion.

You know what you're going to get with Ted Cruz, what you will get with Donald Trump is his ego excrescence this week.

If Cruz would say he’s for wiping out Islam he’d get my vote.

Trump forced the White House to put a fake birth certificate on their website. That birther thing has not gone away.

I was amused by Trump fans hypocritically shrieking NeoCons! at Cruz’ FP advisor picks while they admit their guy is no species of -con, neo, paleo or otherwise.

And why would they criticize anyway if Trump is guaranteed the Nom?

I’m sorry, is this article supposed to help or hurt Cruz?

Like Boehner calling Cruz the devil, it only makes Cruz look a little better lol

first bit of good news I’ve heard about Ted in a while.

"Trump forced the White House to put a fake birth certificate on their website."

Yes he did, but Trump kept on saying he had evidence it was fake and he was going to prove it, but he never did.

“Fringe” is of course one of those buzzwords the media can use to attack people it doesn’t like while still claiming “objectivity”.

Only a few years ago, people like Van Jones and Loretta Lynch would have been fairly identified as “fringe”. Now they’re running the country.

You know what you're going to get with Ted Cruz,

Someone that sides with Elizabeth Warren & Hillary Clinton and blames Trump versus the violent perps.

No thanks. Can't trusTED.

“Never did see that evidence.”

Then you must have never looked at the document.
It’s right here:

I just channel-surfed through the political news channels and MSNBC (I think) had a graphic posted, listing the large percentages of GOP supporters who agreed with Trump on halting non-citizen Muslim immigration (it was well over 60% in all of the states listed), and the “discussion” was that it was a clear indicator that the GOP has a huge bigotry problem. SMH. When 68% of an entire state’s majority party shares a belief, it isn’t “fringe”.
