Under a social media campaign dubbed Name the Nestlings, the public is invited to submit names via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Two final names will be selected by officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, wildlife experts and other groups. An announcement of the names will be made April 26 at a public event at the arboretum.
To participate in the naming contest, people are encouraged to use the hashtags #dceaglecam and #namethenestlings and suggest two names for the eaglets that were born earlier this month.

To me naming wild animals is silly.
How about listing them as Number 1 & Number 2. I can guarantee the eagles will never know the difference.

Well, since they’re held at the arboretum, you can’t really name them “Liberty” and “Freedom”, can you???

No matter what people suggest, you know they’ll end up naming them either Barack and Michelle or LG and BT.

"Officials suggest two creative and symbolic names that live up to the names of their parents. The names should also be gender-neural or names that can be cleverly altered to fit either a male or female, said Julia Cecere, a spokeswoman for the American Eagle Foundation.
The gender of the eaglets is not yet known and probably wont be determined for several more weeks until wildlife biologists can approach the nests and take blood samples and also put leg bands on the eaglets. Once blood is drawn, officials said, theyll be able to figure out their sex.
How cisnormative of them. Shouldn't we wait until the eaglets can express their preferred self-identified gender flavor(s)?
