The Republican Party is a private organization and can set any rules, no matter how undemocratic, obstructionist, revolting and disrespectful to their base it could be.

However, they are not committing treason as they are not attempting to overthrow the government.

In the end, all they are doing is telling rank and file Republicans that their voting in the primary is worthless.

Fortunately, treason is defined in Article III of the Constitution, so most of this argument can be skipped.

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason.........

Not sure the subverting of the selection of a political party candidate by the organization can be described as an act of war.
