This unfortunate man was treating the situation like it is handled, plainly and honestly, in about 95% of the country.

He likely never thought to say, "My cordless drill, drywall screws, some sheetrock, and spackle" as normal people do not think to LIE when questioned by a (supposedly) helpful police officer.

He is probably thinking he lost his job at a minimum. Then add criminal charges, and costs to liberate his truck. The poor guy has had his life completely upended.
Even if he can get lenient treatment in court, it will be a HUGE mess in his life. So sad.

If the guy was a genuine terrorist and his "attack" was thwarted...it would be on ALL the news channels by now.
The media would be lauding President 0bama for his brilliant war on terror and his bold initiatives against shotguns.
This would be coupled with video footage of someone firing a fully-automatic .50-caliber machine gun, of course.
