Well actually, Jesus and the movement in Qumran, were in theological rebellion against the authority in Jerusalem, because of their close relation with the Romans.

And, of course, everyone knows what the Romans were really all about.

Christ was the first to say that a single person is just as important to God as a ruler, or as a mob. The Romans and the Greeks were scratching at the truth with law and philosophy but did not have it right. The teachings of Christ are the basis for the idea that man is born with rights. Without the idea that you are personally important to God, then you have no innate rights, only the privileges you have the power to take.
