I’m tired of the Cassius Clay post mortem. He was a great prize fighter but that’s as far as it went with me.

I get as much entertainment and information without a TV as I did before, but get far less crap because I have to make the conscious decision to link to it.

I am not sick of it, but I can understand why some are.

I think it can be pawned off on a slow news cycle. The primaries are over and there is really not much going on that the networks WANT to cover.

But, he was also the most well known person in the world for a long time. Bigger than the Pope, several Presidents, and other athletes.

Based on those things, I can understand the attention. Next week it will be something else.

The Point: He converted to Islam.

If he was Christian, he’d get an obligatory mention followed by...

You’re right. And like all great fighters he hung around to long and at the end of his career was getting beaten by bums. He always said he wouldn’t hang on past his prime like Joe Louis but that’s exactly what he did. As far as all this social hero crap about him that’s nonsense. He was just a fighter with little education who was easily swayed and used as a pawn by the racist Nation of Islam. If not for them he would have remained a Christian and if not for them he would have did his time in the military when called. As far as fighting went he was a very fast heavyweight and that’s how he won most of his fights. He had a good jab and footwork. To me the best Heavyweight was Marciano simply because he fought the best of his era and never lost a fight. I thought Larry Holmes was as good as Ali, but never got the recognition because he followed Ali. There’s a reason Foreman was never given a rematch. He would have won it.
