If they are going to be such dictators, maybe those who look obese should be denied soft drinks with sugar. Let’s see how that totalitarian policy goes over.

I’m in Philadelphia occasionally for work. I’ll either drink iced tea or buy bottles and bring my own
What insanity
Baltimore put a soda tax in a couple years ago. One neighborhood grocery store with a hundred year legacy was just hanging on. The tax killed it. Then libs complain about food deserts.

NJ put a 10% tax on tanning salons.
“One of the first revenue provisions in the Affordable Care Act to be implemented was the indoor tanning services excise tax, which went into effect on July 1, 2010. The provision applies to almost all businesses that operate ultraviolet tanning lamps, which are required to collect a 10-percent tax on all sales of tanning services.
Initially, the revenue estimates for the ACA projected that the tax would bring in $2.7 billion in revenue over ten years. However, the actual revenues of the tax have been far below the initial projections.”

City Council is gearing up for a vote that could result in a 1.5-cent-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks. Thats half of what Mayor Jim Kenney initially proposed. This trick is so far past getting old it's insulting.

A consumption tax can be overcome. Stop BUYING sodas/sugary drinks, in state. Once a month, or so, date a day trip across the state line, an load up on sodas, several cases.
Eventually, it will backfire, like the tobacco tax, when people quit partaking.
It’s unfair, but sometimes you have to bite the bullet to get a point across.
Or, buy one of those soda machines and make your own...let Aunt Hilda in Florida send you the mix.
