As prelude to doomsday, King of Pain eventually led to, or should we say gave way to Mercury Falling (Hounds of Winter).

"...All I hear is that lonesome, lonesome sound
the hounds of Winter, they harrow me down..."

In the end, maybe it's all the same song, just differing notes and lyrics.

An easy prediction for a new ice age.

Putin will announce Trump is a marketing genius. Trump will propose a trade deal with Russia selling vodka on the rocks.

Americans will be tired of winning so much. Trump will say No, we will keep on winning!

Can we blow on it real hard to get it going again?

A leaf blower works better and you don't get dizzy. ;)

I know about the Maunder Minimum but it still wasn’t an Ice Age
any more than the the one that started in the 6th century.

Should have been called a Cold Age. There had to have been one guy who came up with Little Ice Age and then it was just regurgitated by others.

Poor Peter. He will have to pen another face-saving article.

Peter Gwynne, Newsweek, April 28, 1975:

The Cooling World . Remember when we all were going to starve at best, freeze to death at worst?

The same Peter Gwynne writing in Slate, Dec 17, 2014:

Climate Change Mea Non Culpa

"... I am now in the embarrassing position of being a cat’s paw for denial of climate change ....."

(SNIP)

"..... Here I must admit mea culpa. In retrospect, I was over-enthusiastic in parts of my Newsweek article. Thus, I suggested a connection between the purported global cooling and increases in tornado activity that was unjustified by climate science. I also predicted a forthcoming impact of global cooling on the world’s food production that had scant research to back it.

"...... The messages for science writers are to ask questions beyond the obvious and to seek out what the science doesn’t imply as well as what it does. If I had applied those lessons back in 1975, I might not now be in the embarrassing position of being a cat’s paw for denial of climate change. ......."

(SNIP)

"..... Over my career I’ve covered subjects as diverse as cell biology, the world of physics a century after Einstein’s birth, space commerce, and World Cup soccer. I’ve won prizes for my writing, including a lifetime award from the American Chemical Society. But I fear that my obituary will be dominated by that single article in Newsweek. [bold mine]..."

Incorrect. The Sun is a minor variable star, with an output range that varies cyclically over a 2-3% range.

Actually, pretty much ALL stars exhibit minor variations in output over time. . .

Astonishing images from NASA reveal no visible sunspots are currently visible on its surface.

What about the invisible ones?
