The four-year-old had scratches on her stomach and arm after the mountain lion picked her up.
REXBURG A four-year-old girl who was snatched up by a mountain lion Friday night is recovering from the scary encounter, according to her grandfather.
...
The child was camping with her mother, siblings and cousins near Green Canyon Hot Springs east of Rexburg on Aug. 12.
Sevy said as the family was eating dinner, the girls mother thought she spotted a big cat out of the corner of her eye.
Nobody else thought much of it and, a short time later, her mom went to put the four-year-old in the tent for a nap, Sevy says.
The mother then took her six-year-old child into the woods to use the restroom, according to Sevy. Thats when everyone heard the younger child start to scream.
She got out of the tent because she couldnt find her shoe, Sevy said. Thats when the mountain lion grabbed her and started carrying her away.
The girls mother chased the cougar and the cat released the child before running away.
...
When lions do attack, records indicate that small children are often the targets, Losinski said. This family showed how vigilance and quick thinking can help avert a tragedy.
Sevy said the family returned to the campsite to finish their trip. He is thankful for the response of Fish & Game and other officers and knows his granddaughter is lucky to be alive.
It could have gone the other way so easily, Sevy said. She could have been gone and we would have never seen her. You really have to keep your eyes open when youre out camping.

Rabies shot for the kid. And it looks like a job for a ‘Mountain Men,’ chasing the lion away.

I’m a city girl——I didn’t know that they have restrooms in the woods.
How convenient. :-)
.
My daughter uses a potty bowl for our granddaughter. In the car, on the go, anywhere where a restroom isn't available. Simple to provide some privacy with a small blanket or jacket, then you take the potty bowl elsewhere to dump it. Reminds me of the time before she carried a potty bowl, we were on a trail and she took our granddaughter behind some trees for privacy. We walked up the trail a little bit to wait for them, and laughed because we easily saw them doing the bathroom bit behind trees from the new location.
Needless to say, that six-year-old is lucky the cat didn't grab her by the neck, which could have been fatal.

Scott Lancaster, RIP
It was the four year old that was attacked.
“The Dingo ate my baby”...
You’re slow.
I figured The Dingo ate my baby would be in the first 5 posts.
We’re slipping, people!
Camping out in the wild can sometimes get wild.
How convenient. :-)
No. Not ever.
My idea of camping is a ten-year-old Holiday Inn.

Ditto !
.
In all my years of camping at the Marriott, Ive never had to chase down a cougar, bear, mosquito, etc...just maybe the remote a few times...

OK, if I EVAR see a mountain lion, corner of my eye or dead on or whatever, I'm not walking a child over there in half an hour. I'd have everyone breaking camp and getting ready to find a new campsite many miles away, while I patrol the area with my 12ga. Sheesh, those damn things will eat ya.
“while I patrol the area with my 12ga.”
I would have hopped into my car and headed for civilization.
(You may have guessed that I’m not an outdoorsy kind of person.)
.
LOL.
You ain’t got the stubborned genes like I do then. No two hundred pound predator made of sheer taut muscle and teeth like a tiger is gonna tell me what to do.
Except She Who Must Be Obeyed, of course :)
