AP Photo: Jerry Sandusky arrives at the Centre County Courthouse, in Bellefonte, Pa.
Photo caption: Its been nearly five years since retired Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested on child molestation charges. The scandal has produced new state laws regarding child abuse, millions in civil settlements to his victims and significant changes to Penn States policies and procedures.
An update on the status of the various legal proceedings that remain pending:
Sandusky testified in his latest appeal, which is confined to allegations of newly discovered evidence, constitutional violations or ineffective counsel. He has already lost direct appeals to the state Superior and Supreme courts. The current appeal has delved into decisions after his 2011 arrest to waive the preliminary hearing, give a television interview and not to take the stand on his own behalf. It also has aired questions about the identity of a key figure known as Victim 2, and about leaks of information regarding the grand jury that investigated him. The judge has not said when he will rule. If Sandusky wins, he could have charges dismissed or get a new trial. If he loses, he could ask the state appeals courts to review such a decision. Federal courts also could provide him another avenue of appeal.

I heard he’s a Hillary super delegate.
Sanduskey is a walking advertisement for the death penalty.
And he wants his 45-count conviction overturned, which means he believes he’s innocent.
Since some of Paterno’s defenders claim that he was the Sgt. Schultz of college coaching and that he heard nothing, saw nothing and knew nothing, this tidbit from the story is interesting: “the 1976 accuser says he reported abuse to Joe Paterno but was ignored.”
A lengthy dispute about the actions of the universitys then-top lawyer when the men were facing a grand jury investigation has dragged on for years, delaying the case against former President Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and former athletic director Tim Curley. As a result, some of the more serious charges against them were dismissed
These criminals are going to walk.
Maybe they got an advance on a book deal and forwarded the funds to the Clinton Foundation as a "donation".
He and all of them should have been executed, not simply jailed.
Rumors about Sandusky go way back to the 1990’s.
Joe Paterno knew about Sandusky’s peccadilloes. Half of his staff knew about the creep. They knew and did nothing about it.
Or he doesn't like jail.
What should happen to this rapist and child molester is the ‘boys’ inside should rape the hell out of him...and then they should use the death penalty and get rid of the scum bag...
I live about 35 miles away and when this first broke I thought it was a complaint for money. When the information started coming out I realized that it was serious. I worked as a bouncer at the Ratskeller right after they won their 2 championships and were winning games and all was good. Spanier shows up and he started the change on campus which morphed into a cesspool with his warped philosophy that allowed Cunt Fest and the Sex Fair opening the door for this moral collapse of Penn State. He also gave Sandusky emeritus status so he could be on the campus anytime. So with that they all should be sent up the river for life!!!
OH Spanier...yes he was an ...hole of the biggest kind...
I’ve been to the Ratskeller, didn’t like it, bunch of us bikers showed up there one night, they didn’t like us either...lol....
I’m convinced that everyone in college football knew Sandusky was a pervert. He was the chief architect of one of the finest college defenses, and then chose to walk away from it. That was curious enough, but more curious was that in the years after he walked away and his crimes became public knowledge, how many college head coaching positions opened up? And Sandusky’s name was never ever mentioned as a possibility.
Some mid-level team from a major conference never thought about him? Only one reason; they knew he was a monster.
I agree; Joe Pa looked the other way because he wanted to win. All those years he tried to portray his program as winning the “right way,” and lo and behold, he sold his soul for wins, just like so many other coaches. The list is long, so I need not post it.
But I am also convinced that Sandusky’s preference for little boys was known throughout college football, at least by the time he walked away from the program. I went to Indiana University, where bad football has been a staple all my life (except for a brief time under Bill Mallory). You think we wouldn’t have jumped on the chance to hire Sandusky, even if it were only for five to ten years? And how many other schools would do the same?
But when the vacancies came up, Jerry Sandusky was the forgotten man. Everyone knew, and there was a conspiracy of silence through all of college football.
