snarkpup confirms.

Google is playing games with our searches again.

Maybe we should promote another search engine?

https://duckduckgo.com

If Google wants to hurt us, we can promote competition.

They win the challenge so far. Their first hit was our key word list:

http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/clowardpiven/index

That is EXACTLY what an unbiased search should be.

As for ‘startpage’, their first hits mirrored Google’s, and they were a little slower.

Well...not really. Try this syntax for a FR site search on Google:

site:freerepublic.com cloward piven

I get "This site may harm your computer" on most of the hits.

This is a valid response from Google and I'm appreciative of their security. The reason you get it is the search result you are clicking on is a redirect to another page, which is common for malware sites. In the example I post following, Google is giving you the link to American Thinker, wrapped first with a FreeRepublic.com URL.

Hillary’s recovered emails reveal her pulling strings for Chelsea’s ‘best friend’

American Thinker ^

I'd rather think it's something to do with the code on FR making Google provide you the "American Thinker" link and not the link that takes you to the FR Post.

The Rise and Fall of Jim Robinson Free Republic

The above 2012 thread was the first google gave me just now. Seems 2014, 2015 and 2016 have done quite well for the fallen (not to be confused with the deplorables).

One interesting thing about that 2012 threat is the internal contradictions in the arguments. FR rose thanks to big name stars, Hannity, etal. And FR rose thanks to the input of the many little people.

But it only fell due to Jim Robinson. On that the 2012 article was certain.

what was the search criteria? I just entered Free Republic and the first return was a link to the main page and some of the sub forums. The second was to a Wiki article about the forum

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web-based_SSH

Accessibility: Web-based SSH as described in this article requires no local installation of client software. It is thus possible to access SSH servers through a web browser from anywhere. As communication is based on HTTP or HTTPS it is also possible to access SSH servers from behind a firewall or proxy that restricts Internet access to only ports 80 (HTTP) or 443 (HTTPS).

put https: in front of your normal web address (http:)

If you use https://www.duckduckgo.com , they have that option.

From what I understand SSH is not really secure in todays world. The older TLS (Terminal Level Security) I am told is better.

If you have questions about your computer connection security I would suggest looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web-based_SSH

Gibson Research has been around a long time. I first used their port testers many years ago.

(that is where you can run a port scan. They are honest people.

I just tried site:freerepublic.com "cloward piven" and had no problem.

I also got results - but all over a month old; Google results from FR used to be as recent as a few minutes.

Looks like Google stopped indexing FR on about Oct 18: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Afreerepublic.com%2Ffocus&tbs=qdr:y,sbd:1

It didn’t give me any grief. Do you have any child-safety settings activated?
