The Remington model 870 is probably the greatest pump ever made. It is even better than the Winchester models 97 and 12.

I taught skeet at the University of Southern Mississippi for two years. For those students who didn’t have their own guns the University supplied three Remington 870s. These guns were pretty old and I roughly calculated that they probably had fired a combined 400,000 rounds with no problems.

One of them finally began to sometimes fail to hold the next shell in the magazine. I had no idea how long it had been since they were cleaned. The school had no cleaning supplies so I finally brought some from home and gave them a good going over. The shell stop problems went away and they continued to keep firing as long as I was there.

I don’t know why but Remington gas rings are the only reliable long lasting ones to use on a semi ...

Have you done some “Pattern” shots?

How do the sights work with “Slugs” ?

Sights are great. I can put 5 breneke k.o. slugs in a group the size of my first at 50 yds standing.

I hunt with a Mossberg 835 with a scoped rifled cantilever barrel. It’s sick what that does to deer when shooting lightfield sabot two and three-quarter inch slugs. I have a Bushnell banner variable scope on it. Wicked accurate.

A shoulder thing that goes up?

? It's a 590A1. The heat shield is fixed around the barrel. I also have the bayonet lug, and bayonet (which will come in handy when lib zombies attack). The A1 also has the metal safety and trigger guard, unlike the non-A1. Collapsible stock. Don't know what is meant by shoulder thing that goes up, I'm a novice on that.

I just checked Amazon and their are a number of over-sized steel replacements from aftermarket manufacturers.

What's the firing chamber PSI for a skeet round?

I can't even seem to find any info on muzzle energy for skeet shot.

The heavy-duty 1600fps "military grade" shotshells make from 2400ft-lbs [00] to 3100ft-lbs [slug] at the muzzle.

I have no idea tho I would assume the chamber pressure is on the mild side.

I still have maybe 20 boxes of Winchester skeet loads which have been setting around for maybe 20 years.

I haven’t shot a round of skeet since then.
