PITTSBURGH - Police at Carnegie Mellon University have issued a warning about online blackmail incidents targeting students at the university and other Pittsburgh-area colleges.
An alert posted on the CMU website says the incidents involve demands for payment to prevent the release of sensitive videos and photographs.
Police said male students have been contacted on social media and asked to continue the conversation on Skype.
The victims were encouraged to remove their clothes and perform sexual acts in view of the camera.
Afterward, an unknown person claiming to have recorded the event demanded money to prevent the release of the recording. In some cases, the victims were told to purchase a money order to be sent to an unknown address.

I know, right?
And how about that, sending money orders to unknown address? How did they send them, if they didn’t know the address?
Is it just me, or does this make no sense at all? Maybe there’s some information missing? Surely the person at the other end must be offering something.
So true!
US News university ranking #24, tuition $52,000, acceptance rate 24%
Parents with kids stupid enough to fall for this scam should be sending their kids and money to community college.
Seems like a number of students failed one of life’s required courses, Commonsense 100.
The Russians again!
Casaba Melon U. I don’t want to see wrinkled melons. Bring on the honeydews.
I’ve always found that getting paid before I disrobe works better. Being forced to pay after disrobing is what happens after you go to the doctor’s office.
A whole new level of stupid. Depraved to boot.
On top of it all, whoever wrote this is an idiot. How does one send a money order to an “unknown” address?
What sort of setup leads to young men undressing and "performing sex acts" for an anonymous person on the Internet? Do you think they were auditioning for a homosexual hookup? Or did they believe a woman was asking to see their dinglebobbery?
...and they say you have to be smart to get accepted at CMU
Sad, isn’t it?
Sad and weird. And stupid.
