Technophobic mad genius football coach Bill Belichick has waved the white flag when it comes to his battle with Microsoft Surface.

The New England Patriots head man told reporters on Tuesday that he will no longer use the tablet for analyzing in-game plays.

'As you probably noticed, I'm done with the tablets,' Belichick told reporters during a conference call, according to ESPN.

'I've given [the Suface] as much time as I can give them. They're just too undependable for me. I'm going to stick with pictures as several of our other coaches do as well, because there just isn't enough consistency in the performance of the tablets.'

'undependable' Microsoft

Welcome to the party, pal! So will Goodell call Belichick and order him to use the Microsoft Surface. Microsoft pays big money to the official tablet of the NFL.

We will carry it and use it as a clip board.

Bill doesn’t alway show emotion. His tossing that tablet was hilarious.

I think he only used it because they were all told to by the NFL. But hell, if you can’t slam it like a clip board, what the hell good is it?

He might have to carry it and wave it around, but not necessarily have to use it. I’m sure he’ll get a talking to about saying things like this publicly.

It is made by Microsoft. What did you expect it to do?

Bill is a genius

What Belichick is actually saying.

In the past, the Patriots have had trouble with the WIFI in their stadium. As coincidence would have it, it almost always occurred at inopportune times for the opposing teams, but sometimes it also effected the Patriots. Belichick is going to go old school, so that only the opposing teams will be effected by their 'unreliable' WIFI.

Microsoft is great...

As long as you don’t need it for any actual work, or need to be in control of what it decides to do on its own, or require consistency or reliability, or anything like that.

But for games and such, its fine for my kids.

Microsoft does not understand the needs of businesses that need really reliable technology that will last.

I’m trying to imagine “Da Bears Coach”, Mike Ditka, with this junk.

Ok...let’s be fair. He did not bash the Surface, but tablets in general. He is old school and wants the physical photos he used for decades. And iPad wouldn’t be any better to him

Is it the surface or the network?

My office is a mixed Mac/Windows environment.

We have iPads for taking payments. We use iPhones to photograph embroidery sew outs to send to customers. Our workstations are iMacs, Mac Minis and Mac Pros. They all run VMWare Fusion/Windows 7 so that they can run QuickBooks. Everything else is done under OS X.

We have a Wndows PC acting as our QuickBooks server and one to run our garment printer.

Guess where we have over 90% of our issues...yep, the Windows stuff.

Seems the Macs play perfectly well in the Window’s sandbox, but not the other way around. The Windows boxes also have many more updates which cause issues with production.

The thought of a Windows tablet just fills me with dread....

It's fine for games after its finished updating. You can't use your Microsoft's computer until then.

(Disclosure: I am a Director of IT)

I have had little to no problems with my Microsoft products and particularly with my Surface Pro’s. They are very powerful and (with the exception of a few) very reliable. When compared to similar Apple products they are far more powerful, but like a powerful performance car, need somewhat more maintenance. All man-made products are flawed to some extent and all products have the occasional lemon but much if not most of technical issues experienced by people is the result of operator error or poor choices and decisions.

If Gillette Stadium has poor Wi-Fi perhaps Belichick should correctly identify the problem rather than blaming his device.

Agreed. This snippet from the posted article is disingenuous. He never said 'Microsoft' or 'Surface'. He said 'them';

'I've given [the Suface]<sic> as much time as I can give them.

Seems like the author, Ariel Zilber is trying to whip up a bit of a brouhaha.

Yep, LOL. Can you imagine old line coaches such as George Halas or Vince Lombardi or Tom Landry putting up this nonsense? Heck those guys never even wore headsets when they coached.

Who made that physical PC? Bet you it wasn’t Microsoft.

My experience with the Surface, which, hardware-wise, is actually made by Microsoft, is at the Apple level.

Dell, HP, Lenovo, whatever, all fall short.

found this on Google — they planned for 40% of the fans to get Wi-Fi access ...

and this ...

“The team and networking vendor Enterasys rolled out the Wi-Fi network last year. The network has 360 access points and officials claim it has enough bandwidth for almost all of the fans in the stadium, depending on their network activity.”

I’d like to hope the teams get a private, secure SSID and their own backhaul, but hey, this vendor likely a political ally and FoB.

As other posters have said, it isn’t the Surface but all tablets. Why? Dollar to donuts the software was written by Indians and they suck at it.
