They truly believe that modern western liberalism and social mores are irresistible, and that any opposition will fade over time. That belief of theirs is applicable to Islam, to Iran and Iraq, to China, even to Christians in the US.
Maybe some of the low level naive socialists think that.
The elites know society will be destroyed, and that’s exactly what they want. Then they can usher in utter totalitarianism and no national sovereignty. Thye just hoped the regular citizens would be quiet as mice and tolerate it all.
