Find a doctor that will keep looking - an MRI may show something the x-ray didn't. I had similar and it was a small impingement that was fixed via Acromioplasty (shaving the outer ledge to give it room).

If it's pure arthritis, they may be able to do microsurgery to clean out the crystallization causing the pain (a friend had that done).

DO NOT stick with a doctor that seems to be content to tell you "It's just gonna hurt - deal with it".....

You need magnesium. Take metagenics brand mag glycinate and/or source naturals mag malate. Each tab is about 100mg; build up to 8 per day (2 at each meal and 2 at bedtime).

Build over several days as you can get diarrhea if you take too much too fast. It WILL go away.

That’s why I said see a specialist/surgeon. They know what to look for and how to order imaging so that it will highlight what they need to see to make a determination.

I’ve had multiple surgeries (both hips, two c-spine - among others).

Just because you go see a surgeon for a consult doesn’t mean you’re going to have surgery.

I’ve had so many needles in my spine that I’ve literally lost count somewhere around 120.

Need more info. For me, my pain is a clear result of a lifetime of physical stress on my shoulders and knees. 8 years of football, 20 years of rugby, 24 years in the army. I’ve had severe shoulder separations due to sports and airborne school (a few bad PLFs did me in, but at least I got my jump wings!). Knee surgery twice from football injuries.

Now, my life at 46 is a symphony of pain. It takes a couple hours everyday until I feel close to normal. I still run and lift weights to try and keep everything lubricated, by I’m resigned to the fact that pain, sometimes severe, will be with me always. Chiropractors have been hit or miss for me, mostly miss.

The first two or three days it was miserable, but after that it wasn’t bad. I wore the sling. But not that silly pillow. Didn’t wear anything at night and slept in my own bed. I am over 60 and not a wimp. Best thing was the cooler pump. Had my husband running around to keep me in ice.

Thank you.....and thanks for the correction in my spelling!!

I have used Australian Dream (works pretty good and is guaranteed), and have used Blue Emu (not impressed).

But following the directions on the Penetrex (a bit pricey, but does work good), I did find relief; along with taking Bromelain and Rutin for inflammation (which causes pain).

I agree with Lydia. If the doctor did not eliminate adhesive capsulitis, it might be worthwhile to try the following:

Stand up straight with arms to your sides, Bend the painful arm at the elbow only, so it is straight in front of you, with your hand oriented so the thumb is “up”. Have someone slowly pull and push on your extended hand while you try to resist. If you have pretty much nothing in the tank (yet your other arm is strong when you test it), you might have a.c., and need a new orthopedist.

In my experience, A.C. hurt like the dickens, but was easy to fix with massage, stretching (by a therapist), and exercises. Good luck.

Adhesive capsulitis is usually the cause when doctors can’t pinpoint anything significant from xrays. It’s especially prevalent in diabetics and it normally goes away in time, but the therapy for it is mind-numbingly painful.

I have heard of taking magnesium (2 @ 400 mg per day), however did not know about the different types. I have ordered the source naturals mag malate online and am going to try this type.
Thank you for the info.

I ended up getting surgery. Bone spurs tore the cartilage and tendons in my shoulder. They had to shave down one of the bones quite a bit. I went through lots of physical therapy afterwards. That was almost 2 years ago and I still don’t have the arm strength that I used to. Don’t know if I ever will. I hope that you can find relief for your pain soon. I know what it feels like living with it every day.
