I clicked on this thread to see what he was driving. Got my answer: Mustang. Maybe the driver’s gal is named Sally.

For sure, mods could produce enough horsepower, but it would be very expensive, and where did the 19-year old kid get that kind of money?

Then there’s the problem of aerodynamics. I’m pretty sure the 200+ mph Hennessey Mustang (seen of ‘Jay Leno’s Garage’) has aerodynamic mods. There is HUGE aero difference between 170 mph and 208!

For comparison:

I posted the track video of the Hennessy Mustang, it certainly didn’t look very different from stock as far as external body panels. May be a different story with the underbody, fairings, splitters and vortex generators? However they did it, that car wouldn’t get a second glance on the road other than from serious Mustang fans, it doesn’t look unusual at all.

Heck, years ago I knew a guy who had an off switch and and a hand control on the brake light. He could make the brake lights go full bright without actually braking, or he could brake without the brake lights coming on. He hated tailgaters and would mess with them.

The Hennessey Mustang does indeed have carbon fiber aero mods, as per the Hennessey Performance web site; front splitter, side sills, and spoiler. There’s also an 800+ horsepower version.

At something under $100k, it seems like a stunning bargain.

Compared to almost anything else with those capabilities, it is. I’ve admired the current iteration of the Mustang since it came out, such a nice evolution of the classic Mustang form. Very good-looking car. Having a super-car variant is just icing on the cake, even if my triple digit driving days are well behind me, lol.

It’s a toll road around the north side of Oklahoma City. Sort of an outer ring road. About half of it is 3 lanes.

There is HUGE aero difference between 170 mph and 208!

The difference of the speed squared will give an approximation of the difference in horsepower required.
170 * 170 = 28,900
208 * 208 = 43,264
14,364 or approximately 150% of the HP need to reach 170.

Online calculators are available, helps to know the drag coefficient.

Thanks.

Drives me nuts when people post articles like this without noting the state. How hard is it to put the state abbreviation in parentheses after the title?
