It is ironic that they are upset about Trump recognizing Taiwan, even though it has a democratically elected government, and are fearful of alienating China, a totalitarian government known for its long history of human rights violations. Then in the immediate next section the Slimes bemoans Trump’s potential willingness to meet with President Rodrigo Duarte of the Phillipines, a leader, as they put it, who “has been accused of gross human rights abuses.”
