Economic authoritarianism has now arrived...

Mark Levin·Sunday, December 4, 2016

Economic authoritarianism has now arrived; sorry, there is no other way to put it. I am reminded of Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt, both of whom used the power of the federal government to intimidate and even crush legitimate, law-abiding businesses for failing to abide by their political demands. This is a disgrace, and we should all object to it. It concerns me to no end that there are putative Republicans and conservatives who rally around such un-American and destructive strong-arm tactics. And the fact that it is declared by a recent convert to the Republican Party, as opposed to a Democrat, doesn't excuse it; indeed, it should be even more alarming. https://apnews.com/d5a4140c46844b4f8e50f6c28906906c

He always puts ideology ahead of practical solutions to problems that affect real people. Because it makes him sound intellectual and used to sell books. No more.

Before the election Levin blamed the `imminent` Trump defeat on people not listening to him and nominating Trump. But after Trump`s victory he tried to take credit for it. So maybe Mark himself is to blame for this new `economic authoritarianism`? No. I`m sure he`s switched back to the `people didn`t listen to me` meme. When the economy starts thriving under Trump, watch for him to switch back to the `it`s all because of me` talking point.

Levin is entitled to his opinions, but some are ill-informed, despite that he is bright and prides himself on his intellectual accuracy. The free-market is never really 100% free, because we have laws and rules that define acceptable human behavior. In a 100% ‘free’ market, with no restrictions and no rules, nothing a company does would matter - as long as it made them more competitive. No loyalty to employees? So what. It's about competition. Slave labor? So what? It's all about reducing costs. Patents? Who cares? If you can make it cheaper who cares whose intellectual property it is? These are extreme examples, but my point is that there are always rules and regulations that guide the ‘free’ market, to preserve the rights of the companies/entrepreneurs and of the employees and consumers. The best we can do is to make these things as unobtrusive as possible.

If the #nevertrumpers had the same standard for Reagan, they would have to be #neverreagan

Levin is irrelevant.
If we ignore him, he’ll go away.

For a guy who worships the founding fathers, he seems to have no respect at all for their opinions on trade and economics.

Yes,

I get so tired of this criticism when the guy has not been installed yet.

Mark and Glen should back off for a half year and then let us know what they have observed. This early move was pretty much in the bag before the election (the incentives had been offered before). What was new is that the President elect bothered to give a call. And served notice that moving jobs out of the country will increasingly be a losing proposition after Jan 20.

So here is the question for Mark, What should Trump do to increase the chance of his program going through? (I suspect that even Mark would admit that doing nothing is not the best answer.

It is really simple. GDP is based on consumer expenditure + investment + government expenditures + net export. If you want to increase GDP, you want to increase net export and not have it negative as a result of more imports

From what I’ve seen is that Pence offered Indiana State incentives, which is done all the time, and Trump promised the tax relief and deregulation that he is going to provide all businesses. That doesn’t sound like authoritarianism to me.

This loudmouth ignores Trump won the rotting ‘rust belt’ or typical democrat voters. How else will they figure out that ‘taxing’ the rich hurts American ‘blue collar’ worker’s bottom line? Levin is outsourcing himself into irrelevancy.

I believe that is exactly what Trump did. Pence offered incentives on the state level.

Good analogy. Been trying to put my finger on it. He provides almost no value anymore. Once in a while he will credit Trump for something (eg nomination), but most of the time he will focus on a populist position or statememt he disagrees with and yap yap yap.
