Tinnitus: Any hope in the future

Posted on 12/05/2016 6:55:23 AM PST by far sider

Hey guys. I'm 58 and have had tinnitus for about 30 years now. It has always been just an annoyance. But this year the volume has increased A LOT. It's like a very loud dentist's drill in both ears. I have heard that tinnitus can make you suicidal. I always scoffed at that but I'm starting to see why it would be attractive to some people.

I have a few questions and would appreciate any feedback.

1. I know there is not cure but do any of you know of anything that can reduce the volume?

2. Do cochlear implants help tinnitus?

3. Is there anything promising down the road?

My doctor doesn't have any answers.

Does anyone know or has heard about a cure for neuropathy in the feet? There are hundreds of medical quacks throughout the nation and “neuropathy centers” who claim to have discovered a cure for this insidious disease. It is not an outright killer, but the constant pain in the bottoms of the feet prevents the person to use his feet, thereby rendering him lame after years because of the disuse of his limbs. Elderly people are prone to fall and break bones because their instability. I have come to the point where I think that the only solution for this problem is foot amputation and replacement with prostatic feet. Has any FReeper heard of a solution for easing the Pain? It is said that 20% of diabetics suffer from neuropathy in the feet.

Thanks for posting about Tinnitus. The finger thumping treatment has made a huge difference in my hearing and well being.

I did read recently that the drug oxytocin MAY have some properties which help.

IIRC that is what caused Rush's deafness. Remember when he was hooked on oxy?
That would be the last thing I'd take.

When I do it, I only need about 4 or five times. Ringing goes away for months.

The tapping is not along meridans or points I’m familiar with; my knowledge is pretty limited and practical though. Also, for the tinnitus technique precise location does not seem to matter, just the sound; it is a very gentle tapping also and , not the sort of acupressure technique one would use in Chi Kung (Qigong).

Has Biotin helped your hair? Did you start taking it for ears or hair?

Here is a link to some good info. Combining strengthening exercises with acupressure helps to strengthen weaken organs, thus granting relief and healing. When combined with targeted nutrition, the results can be very profound.

I’m 78 and I can’t tell you how long I’ve had it, it’s been that long but I also have what I describe as 1million crickets all chirping at the same time in both ears, but just the normal everyday sound of things makes me forget it.

Get some hearing aids. My buddy has tinnitus and it stopped when he broke down and bought hearing aids.

Explain finger drumming, is that just rolling your fingers over the desk top or other hard surface?

How do you cover both ears and still have a hand free to bang the back of your head? ...................... You’re kidding right? I’m still trying to clean my ears with my elbow. I’ll figure it out eventually, but I’m still trying to wipe my eyebrows with my tongue.

Well. I be derned. I’d never noticed the ringing in my ears
until I clicked on this thread. Guess I’d just IGNORED it
for a long time. - Try stuff until you find something that
works. FANG had it for a while; and best I remember he took
diuretics, had his ears cleaned out at the doctor’s. Now he
never mentions it; which he would if it hadn’t quit I think.

You are mixing up two things. Rush was hooked on OxyContin, a drug made from opium. Prescribed for pain but sometimes used as heroin. Oxytocin is a hormone released while breastfeeding and after orgasm, a warm, feel good sensation that is probably meant to increase closeness. I have no idea about Limbaugh’s orgasm history but I’m pretty sure it was OxyContin he was abusing.

Is it from diabetes or B12 deficiency? If the latter, I’d start supplementing B12 immediately, maybe through injectibles. If you have diabetes or pre diabetes, I would go as low carb as possible and aim for a fully ketogenic diet. This article says (no need to listen, just scroll down for transcript) that two months on a keto diet can eliminate neuropathy. Kresser knows his stuff.

As Yaelle said, check out the keto diet. It will put your your diabetes into remission and greatly reduce inflammation which should help with your pain. I've lost 100 pounds, lost 30pt of high blood pressure and went from per-diabetic to normal in 8 months on the diet.

Also: don't pay anyone for keto, it's simply a low carb/high fat diet. Everything you need for it can be found for free online and at the local grocery store.
