If it really was an asteroid 151 miles across and it hit the south pole during a previous period when it was covered with ice, the energy released would have melted all that ice and thrown it into the atmosphere. First flooding the Earth, raising sea levels 600 feet, and then causing a new ice age by increasing the albedo of the planet with cloud cover.
I think a significant asteroid strike on Antarctica today is much more likely to raise sea levels than globull warming is.
