When you are in a restaurant, and the waiter fails to bring what you ordered, you punch him, right? Or do you just slap him? After all, you have to get his attention, right?

When your elderly mother gets forgetful, you slap her, right? So your children can see that you treat them with the SAME respect you show to your mother, right? You wouldn’t want your children to see that you respect your mother, but don’t respect them, right?

You tell the waiter the steak is over cooked and it is understood and remedied.

Instructing a three yr. old to not smear peanut butter on the living room curtains, maybe not so much. Apples and oranges.

You are putting everyone’s perception, cognition, logical skills, etc. on the same plane regardless of age or developmental level.

You are also conflating absurd, dramatic hypotheticals with everyday childrearing situations.

You may have strong feelings about the matter but fallacies and sophistry only detract from your argument.

Of course not. Ensuring that the waiter does his job properly is not my responsibility. If I don't like the service at a restaurant I simply never return. But even if it was my responsibility I'm sure he'd be fired long before I felt the need to resort to physical punishment. Can't really just walk away from a problem child though, can you?

When your elderly mother gets forgetful, you slap her, right? So your children can see that you treat them with the SAME respect you show to your mother, right?

Now that's just silly. You can't slap any sense into old people. You have to get that knocked into you when you're young or it just won't take hold. And just so you know, all of my children know that I love and respect them immensely. All three are fine upstanding adults and are busy raising their families and doing it as they see fit. I'm sure you would love to have the government tell them how they should raise their children, but frankly, it's none of your or the government's business.

She’s not a two year old. She understands English and logic and reason and adult matters. Bad analogy.

P.S. If the little idiot started acting like a two year old and throwing a temper tantrum he just might get punched in the face and he knows it. His spankings taught him that.
