Zombie apocalypse would wipe out humankind in just 100 days, according to university research

Using their hypothesis — that a zombie has a 90 per cent chance of turning a human into a zombie once it has found said human, and that a zombie could find at least one human a day — they predicted how long the population could hold out using the SIR model, an epidemiological model that describes the spread of a disease throughout a population.

Using the model, they split the population into three categories; the susceptible population (S), zombie (Z) and dead (D).

The lifespan of a zombie, they worked out, goes thus: S,Z,D. Natural birth and death rates did not feature in the working, as 100 days as the zombie epidemic took place over 100 days, which meant the natural births and deaths were negligible compared to the zombie virus.

The model works out how much infected humans come into contact with non-infected humans, and how likely it is one will spread the disease to the other.

Human survival rates were pitiful, with only a tiny amount of the population alive over the duration of the zombie apocalypse.

In a more hopeful follow-up study, students worked out humans could prolong the survival of the species by killing off zombies and having babies in the nightmare scenario.

Then there’d be no convenient plot device for later.

Go to any campus and you will see zombies, their eyes glued to smartphones.

Will’s version couldn’t hold a candle to Charleton’s.

And he killed his dog.

Unforgivable.

I never watch that show but it seems to me that a flamethrower would be the perfect anti-zombie weapon. You can keep your distance, and since they’re bunched together one flaming corpse would likely ignite surrounding zombies etc.

Indeed. Charleton chopped up members of the "family" with a night-vision-equipped BAR, while wearing a dinner jacket and a ruffled shirt. He played chess with Julius Caesar. Tough act to follow.

I have the original soundtrack from The Omega Man loaded on the pickup's audio system, just in case. Hey, you never know when that might be appropriate "mood music".

I have that series. It’s a bit......out there. Fun read though. Ringo is a hardcore conservative writer.

Study Confirms Celebrities Will Die in 2017, Too

Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles released a startling report this morning stating that, despite public outcry, celebrities will continue to die within the new calendar year.

According to the analytic team, the changing of the year has no bearing on whether or not beloved celebrities will continue to live and breathe. In fact, the passage of time may actually have a negative correlation.

“Our research suggests celebrities will die until the end of humanity… or the end of celebrity, in the unlikely event it comes first,” said study co-author Dr. Sanjay Mahajan...

...Thanks to leading several famous studies, including “Heart Disease Will Kill You Faster than Zika” and “ISIS Really Only Strikes Major Cities; You’re Probably Safe in Billings, Iowa,” Mahajan has made a name for himself by confirming seemingly obvious facts for the American public.

“Most scientists waste their time trying to find cures for disease and ‘suffering.’ I would rather just prove the obvious to people who can’t or won’t accept it,” said Dr. Mahajan.

You are right. It seems, statistically, speaking, 1% of any group infected by a disease will survive. The plague that got the rabbits in Australia had a 1% survival rate, for example. All of us know by now that HIV does not survive to do damage in some 3-4% of humans simply because those humans do not have receptors for the virus.

I cannot find survival data on untreated humans of Ebola.

This is a very interesting area and one people pay little attention to...of course, one never knows if he or she is in the survivor pool. Sigh.

Strange how she shows up out of the blue, on the doorstep of the one man left alive in the whole city. And he has the answer to the cure for the plague.

Yet her and the brat are the only ones to make it out alive and to tell what happened. Jodie Arias anyone?
