Of course the concern is over what may not be found until it is too late.
That is a frighteningly good speculation. I hadn’t thought of it till now. Thank goodness the lady did the right thing. She probably knows that just by turning the guns into the police, she becomes a part of this unfinished story. It’s a risk she decided to take. Nothing to hide.

Another reason to have the inauguration in a supersize location - a Hotel ballroom - with only the chief justice and a few invited guest.

I agree with your assumption. How do you get weapons past perimeter security on Inauguration Day? By having them already stashed inside the perimeter.
On 9/11, those box cutters were not smuggled in by the hijackers. Box cutters were found on grounded planes which had not been boarded — indicating that they were stashed there ahead of time by people on the airline maintenance staff.
