Yes you are faking it when you increase the resolution, but for an image that small it will be fine.
The image is being reduced in dimension while resolution is being increased so it’s not going to be quite that bad, although 300 dpi is print resolution so any artifacts or blurriness will be very evident in lithographic printing.
