No copyright, but Apple got permission of the copyright holder and the songwriters, and the publishers. . . but one singer claims he has a right to control the use of his voice under an obscure California Law so is suing Apple for not getting HIS permission as well, claiming his fans would recognize his voice and assume that he is endorsing Apple and its products. He wants to be compensated for such endorsement for use of his 1971 voice from before Apple even existed!

Singer Jerome Lawson, lead singer of the 70s group the Persuasions, suing Apple because, he says, they did not get his personal permission to use a 1971 clip from a song they did get permission to use from the copyright owners. He's citing an obscure California Law about "rights of publicity" for using his voice. Others who have attempted to use this law have not gotten anywhere with this novel theory, running into the pre-emption of Federal Copyright Law. — PING!
