She clearly angered Pele.
Called my son to tell him a tsunami was headed our way. He told me not too worry they had a couple in Alaska where he fished for two summers.
They evacuated us. Told us to go to Walmart parking lot on Henry street. I was so thankful I could pronounce both names. So we are getting settled in overlooking the coast and my son calls in a panic. He had just seen the news Took a picture at dawn and you can actually see the dark wave coming toward shore.
Walmart was wonderful to all. Kept bathrooms open and a cashier working all night. Even provided water / diapers and formula for babies free
There are a lot of conservatives on the big island. Kona is a different world than even the other side of the island. Each community there is different.
That is awesome! Thanks for posting.
Looks like the place, The island is small, so how many places like this could there be? Still not sure, as I was there in around ‘71. Wish I could see the house.
The island was barely developed back then. The airstrip was cut in the middle of a sugarcane field! The terminal was basically a grass shack!
I absolutely loved Kona
Loved the people
Any small town feeling
My cousin and her husband have retired near Honolulu His family is from there.
No desire to visit.
Lol!
You have exciting vacations!
Do you often give your son so much cause for concern? :-)
We flew in to Kona. I was expecting a lush landscape. The airport is on a lava field. Sort of like landing on a black moonscape
I’d go back in a minute
Less then he gives me
Called one day to tell me he was rappelling up the Devils tower
Informed him he’s to only tell his. Mother that when he is safely back down
So a couple of hours later he called in a hoarse voice said “I fell!”
Thought he was joking with me
Found out years later he was saved by the safety rope around him
He hasn’t repelled since
I don’t mean to be a jerk, but the stewardesses on the Hawaiian Airlines drove me crazy! So beautiful! I was in my young Thirties. We would take off from one Island, and while climbing up to altitude they would push the drink trays, and then reverse and pull them back as we came down! Short flights!
Dang! At least he learned a lesson!
Sons.
I, too, want to learn about many of their adventures only afterwards.

We flew in by Alaska airlines. We’re able to upgrade to first class for less money than a meal would have costs. Wonderful service.
Yeah. Honolulu sucks. Too many people.
A wonderful trip that I will never forget! We flew home on Christmas Day. 5 people on the flight. My family of four,,,, and Ted Asner. He wanted someone to fawn over him, so he came back to our seats. My Father, a staunch Conservative, didn’t even acknowledge his existence! My Mom and Sister were polite. I excused myself and went to play and drink with the stewardesses. I had a nice flight, and stopover in Chicago! No male stews back then!
Even they say that. But they have the family home in a nice subdivision.
Not far from a golf course. My cousin plays in some jazz ensembles and they don’t hesitate to get on a plane and travel for a day or more to another island
Pi$$ poor filming, too much zoomed in footage. It doesn’t have the awe of the initial pulled back footage.
