According to emerging reports from Yemen, a surface-to-surface missile fired by the Yemeni Army has hit the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The missile was launched on Sunday evening, and sources in Yemen have described the missile test as successful. It is unclear exactly what missile was used, and casualty figures, if any, are yet to be reported.
Saudi Arabia intervened military in the Yemeni Conflict in 2015, leading a coalition of almost 10 Middle Eastern countries. In October 2016, a Yemeni activist warned that Riyadh was the next target for a Yemeni missile attack.
Update: More information has emerged, suggesting that the missile was a variant of a Russian Scud missile, known as the “Borkan” surface-to-surface missile.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia says it has shot down a ballistic missile fired into the kingdom by Shiite rebels and their allies in Yemen.
The state-run Saudi Press Agency reported the missile fire early Wednesday. It said the missile, apparently, targeting the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait, was destroyed Tuesday night without causing any injuries.
The rebels are known to have a stockpile of Soviet-era Scud missiles and locally designed variants.
Shiite rebels in Yemen, known as Houthis and their allies have fired a series of the missiles in Saudi Arabia since a kingdom-led coalition of Arab countries has launched an offensive against them in Yemen in March 2015.
In an attack Saturday, one missile apparently targeted a Saudi air base near the Muslim holy city of Mecca, their furthest strike yet.

Practice shot, eh? (Scuds are designed to carry nukes, chemical and bio weapons, and conventional explosives.
Better actually as nuclear or chemical, since they are very inaccurate in over the long ballistic flight, and have no terminal guidance.)
Yemen, though, is most likely to have gotten smuggled Scuds from Iraq/Iranian sources (maybe Egypt but they’re pretty well controlled now.) Didn’t get may (if any at all) from the original USSR deliveries.
