FULL TITLE: Little Caesars creator and Detroit Red Wings and Tigers owner dies aged 87 after amassing a fortune worth $6BILLION

Billionaire businessman Mike Ilitch, who founded the Little Caesars pizza empire before buying the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers, and won praise for keeping the professional sports teams in the city as others relocated to new suburban stadiums, has died. He was 87.

His family released a statement saying Ilitch died on Friday at a local hospital.

They called him a visionary who set the tone for his company and his family.

'He made such a positive impact in the world of sports, in business and in the community, and we will remember him for his unwavering commitment to his employees, his passion for Detroit, his generosity to others and his devotion to his family and friends,' his son Christopher Ilitch, president and CEO of Ilitch Holdings Inc., said in the statement.

He did not eat his own pizza is why he lived so long.

Ilitch at least knew how to create winners with his leadership of the WINGS! as opposed to whatever the Fords have done with the Lions......

A former Marine, he had a pretty good franchise program for veterans, especially disabled veterans.

Well, I don’t know anything about him but RIP. Evidently he was a true American, starting a business here and working hard.

But the question I have is why do the commercials repeat, ‘pizza’? It always brings some sort of memory to my mind as to why, like it’s related to something else but I can never remember what. It’s pretty innovative.

Rip Rip Mike Mike.

They had a promotion where you always got 2 pizzas for every one you ordered—you didn’t get a pizza, you got “pizza, pizza.” Great guy—he and his wife (to whom he stayed married) remained down-to-earth even after they became billionaires.

Remember when gas prices spiked very bad under Obozo? Food was going up including but not limited to price of flour? Lots of places had to raise price of food to stay afloat but Little Ceasers held firm on the $5.00 pizza and sales did not die for them, in fact I look back now and wonder if sales jumped? People still bought from them daily maybe because they were the cheapest?

Always thought they were the worst pizza in town compared to Pizza Hut or Gino’s but if you are really hungry theirs was always hot, ready and somehow hit the spot.

Wow.So THAT is how it came about. I’ve wondered that for years and yes, I think I do remember that.

What a guy.

You used to get two pizzas. They came on a long piece of cardboard that had edges and was covered with a white paper sleeve that had the logo instead of being in a traditional pizza box.
