“I mean the bicyclist, they need to look as the come up to the stop sign to see if it’s clear. The California Roll Through is safe for those paying attention.”

Problem is, these bikes act like they have the right of way at all times. Like the rules of the road don’t apply to them. Like they are the only ones on the road. Yes professional they are obnoxious. I have seen video after video of them making mistakes that could have and probably should have cost them their lives. Then they want to turn around and jump on the car drivers and blame them.

Will give you a for instance. Saw a car pull out in front of a bicyclist. Did the driver see the man, don’t know? He did it happens everyday to cars get over it. Does the bicyclist slow down so that he is at least so many feet behind the car should the car have to stop? No he keeps going at same speed and “tailgates” car for about 1/4 mile. Well you guessed it the car had to slam on his brakes and the bicyclist had to run over in a ditch to keep from hitting the car. So now that is the car’s fault? NO that is the bicyclist fault for not slowing down just as it would have been a car’s fault for not slowing down. If this person on a bike does not have enough sense to keep behind a moving car so many feet just like a car does/should then he and others like him has/have no business riding a bike

“No he keeps going at same speed and “tailgates” car for about 1/4 mile. “

The cyclist was “dafting” off the car, using the pressure wave the car creates as it moves through the air to cheat a bit and go faster than he could pedal. I won’t say that when younger I’ve never done it but it is dangerous as all get out. Not only does a bicycle not accelerate as fast as a car they don’t decelerate as fast either without doing a front wheel stand.

The cyclist presumes the driver knows what’s going on and that the driver will not have to make an emergency stop. Neither of those are valid presumptions. Unlike a car a cyclist has to watch his front wheel as small bits of road debris or small potholes, unnoticed by a car driver must be avoided by a cyclist. That means a cyclist can’t be looking for brake lights all the time.

Cyclist have enough problems with drivers that are valid that they don’t need to create more.

Also as others above have said, I have rolled through stop signs on my bike lots of times in places where I thought it was safe. However, it’s like going 32mph in a 25mph zone. You can do it safely and many many people do lots of the time but that’s not an excuse if you get a ticket and isn’t an argument to raise a speed limit.
