You still need a tax collector. Who is it going to bee? A flat rate could get rid of most of them.

A sales tax would be much better in that they would only have to monitor a much smaller subset, businesses, instead of every breathing person.

A national sales tax would only tax consumption, not income. IMO, that makes it inherently superior.

I lived in California, a state with very high state income tax rates and aggressive collection practices. Now I live in a state with no state income tax but a bit higher sales tax.

Guess which one I like better? You can control how much you pay in sales tax by managing your spending.

It was so worth moving, if for no other reason than to escape California’s Franchise Tax Board who think nothing of nailing you for make believe taxes. Once they decide you owe it, you’re screwed. Just like the IRS.
