I thought dogs instinctively knew how to swim.

I have never heard of doggie swimming lessons.

They test and teach themselves at the waters edge like at a shore line
Dropping them into a pool where they can not feel the bottom is stupidity and as demonstrated have a deadly result.

Some people don’t deserve children or pets

Ours loves to jump in a creek and swim around a bit. As far as I know she never took lessons and she never saw another dog model the behavior.

Maybe the owner should get a cat

Due to vagaries of their conformation, not all breeds are capable swimmers.

That’s why water dog breeds are always wide bodied, double coated and stocky.

The Dobermann is one of the breeds who are not good in water.

Their deep chests, narrow bodies and low body fat ratio makes swimming difficult for them.
[my Ibizan Hounds had the same issues]

Pugs and Bulldogs are too front-heavy to swim, as another example.

The stupid ass morons who took their dog to do this, in the first place, are solely to blame.

It’s repeated several times, how the trainers had to “force” the terrified dog into the pool.

If anyone ‘forced’ my Dobermanns to do something that terrified them or could harm them, I would tear their throats out with my bare hands.

But hey...that’s just me.

I have zero “pity” for the broken hearted owners.

They may as well have just shot the dog, themselves.

boxer mix! Boxers are notorious for not being able to swim, for some reason.

Some breeds take to the water and some don’t. Labs and Retrievers will spend every waking moment retrieving toys thrown in if you let them. Doberman’s? Not sure, but if not it wouldn’t be because they’re black :-).

Our Golden swims like a rock, he sinks. And he came from great hunting lines. lol. Not only does he fail at swimming, he doesn’t retrieve either. Just a big old goofball who we love dearly.
