I wouldn't break out in a cold sweat just yet. Trump wants a truce and is likelier to get it if nobody thinks they're indispensable. (But I hope Trump keeps in mind this truth: "Bannon remains very popular at Breitbart and his ouster would likely be viewed as a move by Trump to the center which would almost certainly alienate his nationalist base".)

If President Trump gets too full of himself and pushes Bannon out, he will have cut his own throat. Perhaps Conway and a few others could still carry the conservative torch, but my faith would be severely shaken in the President's judgement were this to happen.
I can't think of a more foolish move that the President could make than to dump Steve Bannon. It would be a devastating sign that he has turned his back those who elected him. He'd better get his head straight, or he will lose real support—not just phony favorability ratings.
