Wouldn’t it be cheaper to build a platform, with a sign-in sheet to help people that want to jump to do so? End of day, if they want to end their lives, isn’t that their choice. And a specific jump, make it a plank, is poetic and leaves lot less mess than if they slice their wrists, jump in front of a bus, or suicide by cop.

I agree that one’s life is one’s own.
Many Christians believe otherwise, though — that our lives belong to the Lord, and it’s sinful to end them before His set time. Though I disagree with that, I respect their stance.
And either way, your tax dollars get spent on the cleanup when someone takes the long dive. I don’t know how much — but it’s definitely non-trivial.
This being liberal California, maybe they should set up a little booth on the bridge: you’re only allowed to suicide if you can pay cash equivalent to the cost of cleaning up your demise.

I'd wager they could find an old diving board for less money. A mail box, painted International Orange, mounted next to the ladder, with "Any Last Words? The first step is a killer." painted on it.

Suicides would plummet...
