SAN MATEO — A woman woke up to a mountain lion snatching her dog off of her bed at a Pescadero home early Monday morning, according to deputies.

At around 3 a.m., a woman called 911 reporting that her dog was taken by a mountain lion from her home in the area of 800 Native Sons Road.

The woman told deputies she and a child were sleeping in a bedroom with their 15-pound Portuguese Podengo at the foot of the bed.

...

The animal took the small dog from the bed and walked out, she told deputies.

The woman then went outside with a flashlight to look for her dog. She saw large wet paw prints at the entrance to the bedroom and called 911.

Deputies searched the area and also found paw prints similar to a mountain lion.

Poor lady. I can’t even imagine what that would feel like and never want to find out. Wow.

Glad it took the dog and not the child.

True enough. I bet there are some security screens and doors in that place soon.

She might want to think about closing her doors and windows at night. This time, the dog took one for the team. Next time, someone else might be the meal.

The cat *would* have taken the child first if it wasn’t under covers.

They had left the bedroom’s French doors partially open to let the dog out.

Exactly and now that the cat has found a good, easy food source it will be back.

"...the dog took one for the team..."

Don't give up hope yet!
Perhaps it is an inclusive mountain lion that wishes to raise a dog for diversity purposes?

We need to ban the sales of lockpick tools to known mountain lion felons.

This sounds almost identical to a story some months ago. Mountain lion walked in an open door and grabbed the dog if I’m not mistaken. I think it happened in Durango, CO.

Only if she called the police.

It wasn’t the dog’s scent that attracted it, it was the child’s. Set a spring trap chained to something next to the french doors or it’s coming back in again.
