“We need to ban the sales of lockpick tools to known mountain lion felons.”

*SNORT* Good one, LOL!

It wasn’t the dog’s scent that attracted it, it was the child’s.

How can you be sure of that? (Just asking, as I don’t know anything about mountain lions.)

Yet you would be the first to cry foul if Africans hunted lions, leopard and cheetahs to extinction for “safety” reasons.

So you would be ok hunting every predatory animal in Africa to extinction? Wow.

I am in favor of reintroducing predator species back to North America. Then all these gun owning yahoos will have a REAL reason to carry, maybe even open carry will come back. Guns will become more prevalent which I think would be desirable. Those cowboys of old didn't carry a Colt just to shoot bad guys.

An armed society is a polite society,

I was just reading that there is, on average, one death attributed to mountain lions each year. With pit bulls, there are 17 per year.

Correction: One death every 17 day by pit bulls. Equals 21 per year.

Around here year round a cougar hasn’t a chance. There are so many turkey hunters this time of year a cat won’t see its death until its too late. Deer season is the same. Protected or not, if the animal presents a possible danger it will be shot.

Leopards occasionally snatched dogs from homes in “South-C”, a predominantly Asian housing area outside Nairobi. Not sure if the leopards especially liked the taste of ‘dog’ or if they were just fed up with the incessant nighttime barking & howling.

Authorities want to remind residents to lock and secure their home’s doors and windows.

I live in the Sierra Foothills. A couple of Summers back
I brought home groceries and took them thru the garage
overhead door then I propped open the spring loaded
house door and set them on the kitchen counter. I was so
tired I went to the living room and sat down on the
recliner. Then I proceeded to fall asleep. Waking up
at 7AM I thought I might have heard something in the
kitchen but I dozed off waking up again at 7:30. Walking
around the corner of the kitchen I noticed both doors
were open but that the sensor light to the wash room
was also on. I walked outside thru the garage and
noticed a brown bear munching from a bag of corn chips in
front yard....the same bag I had left on the counter.

Damn bear had been in my kitchen while I was bagging Zs
in the front room. When he finally saw me he snagged the bag
in his mouth, took off running, but stopped long enough
to turn and show off his take!

Mountain bikers attacked by mountain lions. This happened more than once at O’Neill Regional Park in south Orange County.

This is a wild park directly abutting large suburban developments.

I now someone who had their dog snatched while halfway out the doggie door. It was a fair sized red heeler and the cat yanked it out like a rag doll. The owner, who is about 5’ 1” and maybe 110 lbs, ran out after the cat like a crazy person and startled the lion into dropping the dog. The dog survived after getting a ton of stitches. The lion food dispenser door was sealed shut.

Self induced... Left door open so dog could come and go as it wanted. Too lazy to do what people do who live where critters live

I’m sure PETA has developed a “mountain lion pepper spray” that will not harm the animal similar to the one developed and used so successfully on bears.
