People need to stop flying for one week—just one week, nobody sets foot on a plane. When the airlines make no profit, they’ll wake up and start treating people right.

But as long as the sheeple keep flying, these things will keep happening.

"...people need to stop flying for a week..."

Having so few airlines is part of the issue.
I know for me that my "distance I'm willing to drive" is absolutely getting longer with each lousy airline trip experienced.
My employer really doesn't care if I'm on an airplane, train, or renting a car...as long as I reach client locations.

So correct. Air travel is a mess. Their employees hate the airlines and its customers almost as much as we hate them and their entire process. And throw the TSA into the mix and it is a nightmare.

So when airlines have not made profits, sometimes for years at a time, how does that affect your premise?

I must have missed where airlines started adding in extra service and benefits for airline travelers; most of the news stories at the time simply said airlines were cutting costs.
