Review: Coal terminal would boost global climate-warming gas [Longview WA]

A coal-export terminal proposed in Washington state would increase cancer risks for some residents, make rail accidents more likely and add millions of metric tons of climate-changing greenhouse gas globally every year, according to an environmental study released Friday.

Millennium Bulk Terminals-Longview wants to build the facility along the Columbia River near the city of Longview to handle up to 44 million tons of coal a year. Coal would arrive by train from Montana, Wyoming and other states to be stored and loaded on ships heading to energy-hungry markets in Asia.

The yearslong fight over the deep-water port comes as President Donald Trump has vowed to revive the struggling coal industry and lifted restrictions on mining coal and drilling for oil and natural gas.

Environmentalists, tribes and others have fiercely opposed the project, which could increase U.S. exports of coal by 40 percent, because of concerns about global warming, coal dust pollution and potential damage to fisheries on the river. …

The coal isn't being burned at the terminal, so it won't be responsible for putting out global warming gases.

Maybe GW nuts count the same emissions at each step of the way, as this journalist does.

1. Dug from ground
2. Loaded on trucks
3. Deposited at terminal
4. Loaded on boats
5. Deposited at terminal
6. Transported to yard at coal plant
7. Burnt at coal plant

You get seven times the emissions about which to complain using the author's “step emissions” approach.

The irony is that there is an imperative in the Communist Manifesto “to increase the total productive forces as rapidly as possible”; but the “revolutionary” means that Marx outlined, especially “despotic inroads on the rights of property and on the conditions of bourgeois production” (the only effective means of production) are always detrimental towards that stated goal.

Yes; they are always counting the fuel consumed by transportation.

They should stay home then. And, if they really cared, well they know what to do but won’t “DO” it.

Longview was part of my employer’s vision back in 2003/2004.
Then the bottom blew out...

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Ah, the morning demonstration of journalist’s total lack of knowledge of physics, engineering, math, and medicine.

Which, of course, is why they are journalists.

Or, to overload their little pea brains, just pose these:

1. Define the “correct” temperature range for the planet.

2. Define the “correct” humidity range for the planet.

3. Define the “correct” mean sea level for the planet.

4. Define the “correct” amount of precipitation for the planet.

5. Define the “correct” makeup of the atmosphere.

6. Define the “correct” amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.

7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.

Got it. The eco-nutcases in Washington (state) just succeeded in derailing a proposed natural gas to methanol plant to be built in Tacoma, with the product methanol to be exported That is probably the cleanest chemical production process that exists today. But the green weenies weren't having it.

It’s time to let Cal. Oregon and Washington go their own way. We could save trillions if we didn’t have to subsidize their lunacy.

Note to Trump:

Use the executive authority to declare some place a “national monument” and turn all of Longview into federal land, and tell WA state and their greenie weenies to go stuff it.

Most of the environmentalist that protest and file law suits are scientifically ignorant. However, there is a subgroup in the environmental movement that are scientifically literate and do know the consequences of their actions if successful.

Food production is almost totally linked to the use of fossil fuels for power and fertilizer and transport. If the radical environmentalists achieve their goals there will be massive starvation and a major depopulation of the world. The world is full of nuclear weapons. When nations are in dire straights and with nothing to lose, they will use them.

The environmentalist would bring us starvation, war, and apocalypse. The scientifically literate environmentalist are individuals that are evil. They see the majority of the human race as disease of the earth. But like in "Animal Farm" all animals are equal but some are more equal than others. They are more equal in their twisted logic.

Coal is used all over Asia. We can sell it to them or they will purchase it Elsewhere. Might as well have our coal folks provide it,
