Amazing how glacial our Marine Corps is when it comes to innovation: the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory reviewed and tested the FN fixed-headspace/quickchange barrels for the M2 at least twelve years ago.

If it wasn't for the imagination and hard career-damaging work that Major Jim Nelson did in '93, we wouldn't have the M240 machinegun instead of that cheap M60.

It would be a good thing if the Corps started promoting officers to Generals with a technology degree instead of sticking to Physical Education Majors.

You got that right. I remember the head spacing and timing being a pain in the arse 50 years ago in VN.
