This was not personal, I just figured people knew that Trump, as president in 2017, just like if Hillary had won, has no say in Comey's appointment.

I wish it were not so, and I sincerely hope the man becomes involved in a scandal that would mandate he resign. He's really awful.

I think you need to understand that the FBI director is “an at will employee of the Executive Branch,” and as such can be fired by the President. He can also be removed by the Congress through the impeachment process. He is only the FBI Director today because Trump has decided, at least for the time being, that he should remain. His ten year appointment doesn’t mean he cannot be removed by either the President or the Congress, and in the case of the President, no cause has to be made for his dismissal. If you doubt this, I suggest you go look it up just like I did just now.
