Perhaps if you read the book, Right Brother, you would have modified your answer. It is a fascinating book based on scientific fact made more interesting by the fictional drama. The book is written by a man well familiar with EMP creation of disaster.
Apparently WASH DC up to Baltimore is “hardened” and probably other areas as well...but I bet dollars to doughnuts your area is not if you live away from the seats of government.
What will you do the day after an EMP and how will your neighbors react and your local FEMA confederates of power try to impale you on their previous power? What type of tyranny will be imposed by their will when there is no government limited by a constitution or Bill of Rights?

There have been a lot of good responses in this thread but it bears repeating...
there is likely one and possibly 3 nations capable of delivering a successful emp strike on conus that would have widespread effect...and if that happens it will simply be the precursor to sveral thousand more nuclear detonations
as far as the electric grid being hardened...don’t kid yourself. I have personal involvement in what is being done to protect some of it and emp is not anywhere near the top of the list of things that are considered as threats
if you want something more realistic to worry about do some reading about the vulnerability of much of our infrastructure to coordinated cyber attacks. 1000x more likely than emp and without the downside of immediate overwhelming nuclear response that would accompany any even unseccesful attempt to hemp the US
Lastly, Forstchen and his cohorts wrote that book in hopes of some FUD creating some grants for “research”
