FULL TITLE: Toddler, 2, suffers severe brain injuries when her male babysitter, 16, 'disciplines' her because she 'snuck a piece of candy'

A two-year-old was unresponsive and suffered serious brain injuries after her 16-year-old babysitter allegedly 'disciplined' her.

Gia Faye, 2, was supposed to be asleep in her Brownsville, California home when she was playing with a toy Thursday afternoon.

Her babysitter, a teenage boy known to the family, took the toy from her and left the room. When he got back she had taken a piece of candy.

What kind of parent is stupid enough to get a male babysitter?

I actually agree with you. Teenage boys are basically chimpanzees. I was one once.

We did. We had three boys and we had a male babysitter, but our children were older than two.

Strange as this sounds my family had a teenage boy babysit us as kids. He did a great job. He was not gay or anything just extremely mellow for a boy. Still friends with him today. He’s married with grandkids.

He was the exception to the rule.

At the time of the incident he was watching Gia and three of her siblings, ages ranging from infancy to five-years-old, according to police.

The teen was jailed in a juvenile hall and his name has not been released.

Lamar said she has known the teen for four years and had let him move in with her family after his had kicked him out.

I’m a guy. As a teen, I baby-sat for my cousins at times. I didn’t want to - was probably forced into it by my mom, with the promise of free pizza from my aunt. I saw the job as pretty simple: Watch TV and make sure the kids didn’t hurt themselves until the parents got home.

When our daughter was old enough to work outside of just babysitting in our neighborhood our son took over for her. It was a testament as to how people trusted our kids and that confidence was well placed. The kids who are all grown now still keep in touch with our daughter and son. Makes this mama so proud.......;)

There are boys who can do well with babysitting. Depends a lot on if they have infant/toddler siblings of their own, and they have been supervised/instructed by their own mothers and fathers on how to handle, and how not to handle, a baby or child.

Depends on the individual teenager's personality, character and disposition as well.

Some states, I think, have a category called a "depraved heart" crime, wherein the wilful doing of a dangerous and reckless act with wanton indifference to the consequences, is just as blameworthy, and just as worthy of punishment, when the harmful result ensues, as is the express intent to harm, itself.

That said, the mother made a grave error in judgment letting a boy watch her child without previous careful supervision and instruction.

And the teenager needs some form of retributive justice just to make an impression on his--- well, his depraved heart.

"What kind of parent is stupid enough to get a male babysitter?"

I would think that the issue would be one of qualifications and character, not gender.

Plenty of babysitters are male, so I don't see why that would be "stupid" on the part of a parent.

I did my share of babysitting in my youth—being male is certainly not disqualifying, and, indeed, has some distinct advantages, as far as "ability to protect" is concerned.

A babysitter is someone who is implicitly trustedno parent should hire any babysitter they haven't interviewed, and who they don't trust with their children's safety.

The fact is, the overwhelming majority of babysitters—male or female—do a perfectly good job with the kids placed under their care...

The cashier that rings me up down at wal mart has more tats than that! More and more women have them and quite frankly it’s trashy.

Maybe, doesn’t look quite that rough. Does appear that she’s generous with her affection.

I’m sure lots of us guys babysat younger siblings and neighbor kids on occasion. It wasn’t a big deal. I only dropped my sister on her head once. Well, she kinda slid off the bed but the only injury was to pride.

Back in our day the babysitter was either a teenage daughter of good family friends or the widow of a deceased coal miner.

When Mrs. B was in charge and studio wrestling came on you sat down and shut up or she'd show how she handled George "The Animal" Steele.

Yeah, no way a male babysitter and everything would be on video now.

Am not saying you weren’t a good babysitter just shocked. Most boys that was not their “thing”. Half the boys I knew would have gone stir crazy around babies, toddlers and small children.
