My dad left HS in OK to join the Navy. After being wounded off Okinawa, he had to beg his HS for a diploma so he could start college in the fall. He said he played it up as big as he could with his uniform, purple heart and crutches.
He got the diploma, and started at Seattle University in the fall of ‘46.

attended Shamokin Area High School until the 10th grade, when he was drafted
Never heard of anyone ever getting drafted out of high school.
