The entire time my daughter was pregnant there were only two things that she could eat/drink without throwing up - beer and Arby’s roast beef sandwiches. Listened to a somewhat lengthy lecture from her OB-GYN about the nutrients in beer and so made sure that she had several cans in the frig. She also nursed the grandchild for about six months and was fine as long as she limited her food intake to one beer a day and three sandwiches.
Grandson is now 25, never sick from anything, can’t stand any kind of beer but would drive 50 miles out of his way for an Arby’s roast beef sandwich.
I kept hydrated with Jack Daniels and hot tea while in Viet Nam.
lol...they didn't just encourage us to smoke...They made certain that in every C-ration meal you had 5 cigarettes to smoke before your next gourmet meal

In 1953 my late father was an American physician doing a fellowship in radiation therapy (they call it radiation oncology today) at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, England.
The hospital, like most, had a maternity ward.
The venerable Guinness company would supply, free of charge, a keg of beer or more every week, to allow the mothers (expectant, in early labor, and post partum) to drink Guinness ad libitum while confined to the ward.

In the 1950’s my mother smoked while she was pregnant with me. There isn’t one bad thing that happened in my life, from losing a job to having a hangnail, that I don’t blame on her.
True but at least the guys knew she wasn’t celibate and liked guys. These days that’s something!
