You need to stay hydrated when you’re breastfeeding.

When my daughter was born in 1976 the old Dr. told me to get a six pack of beer and he left orders to the nurse that my wife got a beer everyday. Even after she and the baby came home she drank one beer everyday as long as she breastfeed.

Strange. Drinking a beer for nursing mothers is a long recommended addition to the mother's diet. Goes back at least to the forties. This appears to be an exercise in ignorance by the powers that be.

Not like she was knocking back scotch and soda, or whatever that stuff is.
Now, if she was nailing boilermakers with the beer.............

If you are going to consume alcohol then while actually nursing is probably the safest time as the milk is already produced so the alcohol isn’t present. The alcohol will then leave the system before the next round of milk is produced.

Since the woman faces public intoxication charges, I’d say she had somewhat more than one beer.

I was the youngest of six. Mom and dad had two Old Crow (all they could afford at the time) and gingers every night---including while mom was carrying me. I grew up to be a Colonel in the Marines with 3700 hours in F-4/A-4/F-18s.
I suppose I might've done better in life if mom woulda drank better bourbon....

An upbeat part of the story is that they’re having work conferences at bars now. I assume every time a speaker says “team” you have to drink.

America is becoming insane
My first daughter was born in a British hospital. The nurses recommended my wife drink a pint of Guinness daily to help with breastfeeding
My wife didn’t like the taste, but I gladly took their advice

Nanny State Shenanigans.
In 1953 my late father was an American physician doing a fellowship in radiation therapy (they call it radiation oncology today) at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, England.
The hospital, like most, had a maternity ward.
The venerable Guinness company would supply, free of charge, a keg of beer or more every week, to allow the mothers (expectant, in early labor, and post partum) to drink Guinness ad libitum while confined to the ward.

In the 1950’s my mother smoked while she was pregnant with me. There isn’t one bad thing that happened in my life, from losing a job to having a hangnail, that I don’t blame on her.
