A friend of mine is a LA-based mastering engineer who I partnered with on 5-6 albums.
One album he remastered was “Hotel California”.
During that time, the studios were changing to a new type of tape that promised better sonics. Alas, after some time, the tape began to disintegrate.
Steve (the mastering engineer) literally had to “bake-the-tape” to restore the tape, albeit temporarily.
You might say those songs were 'twice baked', based on the stories surrounding the recording...
