Here is my situation. I probably was borderline with type 2 diabetes before I took my current job but because of a lot of circumstance I now am on the road 4 hours a day commuting, behind a desk or in meetings 9-10 hours per day, and still on call 24/7 every other week (technically every day of my life). Very busy and stressful job so I do not get a lot of exercise and I eat fast food/junk often because I do not have time for lunch in a normal manner. Have only put on 10 pounds but probably another 5-10 has converted from muscle to fat over 10 years. Yes if I could lose probably 15 pounds and convert another 10 to lean muscle I suspect my A1C would be within range again.

See no way to work that out right now until one of two things happens. I either get a job offer that pays me close to what I make right now but the commute is not 220 miles per day (will not move to where I work) OR I hang in 3 more years when all 3 of my children will be out of college and I can downsize my job and other things and relax a little more.

You need to pack low carb food. It is hard but, limit yourself to prepared meats and cheese and greens and you still drop weight pretty fast and feel a lot better.
Beware the salt if you eat too much prepated meat.
It almost sounds like you could stop medications IF you really restrict yourself. Being able to do that makes you feel much better and you will begin to crave the meats and cheese after a bit instead of the junk.
Stress effect blood sugar as much as carbs for me.
It is one hell of a struggle. One week I’m good the next will be bad. The more I use medication alone the more I swell and have heart failure symtoms.
You have to do whatever it takes, you can’t always have your cake and eat it too.
Cake is poison to diabetics by the way.
Eating to help diabetes reveals to you how bad the American diet and culture in regards to becoming diabetic in the first place.
No easy answers except becoming very restrictive about food and getting more active.
The last month I have been great but during the winter I was way out of control.
