“How does one tag a great white shark?”

Very carefully.

(Sorry, old and corny, but I couldn’t resist.)

This is the same shark that been on the NC coast this summer. He was originally tagged in Hilton Head, hence his name.

The shark must have heard that Chris Krispe Kreme Christie was on the beach.

How does one tag a great white shark?

Very carefully. If they can flip the thing (1,300 lbs -- doubtful) onto it's back, it will go comatose. Otherwise, maybe with a trank gun?

Very carefully. Seriously, there are cable tv shows showing the flood-able “stage” that the put along side the fishing boat. They hook a shark and work it over to the stage side of the boat, then raise the stage out of the water. They shove a water hose inside the shark’s mouth to keep water flowing over the gills while the researchers apply the tags & remove the hook.

At 12 feet and over 1300lbs, Hilton is not “new” and has probably made that trip quite a few times in his life. He actually has spent a good deal of this year down along the southern beaches and is making a yearly migration northward to go find some nookie.

I used to love watching that show about tagging the sharks. On NatGeo?

Actor Paul Walker spent a season or two tagging sharks. He seemed pretty knowledgeable.

Still small compared to the females. A 12-ft male is still a pretty agile shark and able to chase down it’s prey. The big female hunt in the vertical, ambushing their prey.

A diving acquaintance of mine went down to Guadalupe Island and did some cage dives with the GW’s. That’s where Paul Walker filmed, BTW. He said that in clear water the seals would not worry about the female GW’s. They couldn’t catch the seals. When the males showed up (as a group) the seals got scarce. The males almost hunted cooperatively, cutting off the seals. Of course if the clouds moved in, or the water visibilty declined, the seals would tuck up under the boat so as not to silhouette themselves against the surface.

My inlaws live on Brown street, basically across from West Point Island, and have friends over there. Visit them often.

Btw, Joe Pesci lives on West Point Island.
